Polypharmacy has been a large and growing problem for several decades. I remember how proud my aging Mom was that she kept her (arm-long) list of medications up-to-date. It makes me so sad in retrospect. She was so trusting and practitioners kept loading them on. By the time she ended up in a nursing home, no one cared to take the time (no one had the time?) to take a step back and evaluate all the drugs she was being given.
I’m not an anti-vaxer or any other kind of science-doubting extremist, but I am so resolved to keep myself off the “health” care treadmill now that I am getting old.
As a hospitalist trained in geriatrics, polypharmacy is one of my main focuses in hospitalized patients.

Well said.
Thanks.
